Bucket List – 6 Days 5 Nights

Day 1 – Arrival

Arrive Anchorage international airport. Your guide will meet you and escort you to your Anchorage hotel, where you can rest and recover from jet-lag in comfort, or explore Anchorage on your own. Shopping, museums, theaters, and great restaurants are all a short walk from the hotel.

Day 2 – Whitewater Rafting and Glacier Trekking

The Lion Head Run is a short, fast stretch of whitewater where the Matanuska gets squeezed between rock and ice. During your 3.5 hours on the water, you’ll get a great view of the 27-mile-long Matanuska Glacier, which presses the river up against the massive rock wall called Lion Head. There are a few miles of Class 4 rapids and 14 miles of Class 3 over three hours.

After the float, we’ll take an ‘otherworldly’ evening hike on the Matanuska Glacier, trekking onto thousand year old ice.  Your guide will take you to turquoise pools, blue ice, and ice caves as we head toward panoramic vistas.  The vistas are dynamic with the Alaskan evening light shining across it deepening the contrast of the vivid terrain.

Day 3 – Fly-out Salmon Fishing and Bear Viewing

Today in the morning we board a float plane and fly across the Cook Inlet to pristine wilderness. We will land on a wilderness lake where expert guides will help you learn to fish for red salmon. salmon fishing and bear viewingWhile we fish we will see wild black and grizzly bears who come to the water’s edge looking for fish to eat. This trip is a photographer’s dream, and a fish-lover’s delight. Take home your catch or donate it to local charity.
