Day 2 – Alaska Railroad

We’ll start the week off right with a gorgeous morning ride on the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to the port-town of Seward. This extraordinary excursion takes you through the pristine mountains of Southeastern Alaska where you can view glaciers from the track. Cruise in the first-class glass-covered upper deck and view natural wonders and wildlife right from the comfort of your seat. Upon arrival in Seward, tour the fishing docks, unique local shops, or the Seward Sea-life Center. An evening meal fresh seafood, or Alaskan King Crab overlooking the docks is the perfect way to end the first full day in the Land of the Midnight Sun.

Day 3 – Seward Ocean Wildlife and Glacier Cruise

We will board our own 50 foot boat for a private wildlife tour of Prince William Sound. We are sure to see whales, otters, sea lions, and many other wild animals in this pristine maritime environment. Get a close look at Glaciers along the way. Try your hand at fishing for rockfish and cod (sometimes Salmon and Halibut as well) as our experienced captain and fishing guides lead the way. You are sure to take home photographs from this excursion that you will treasure for a lifetime!

Day 4 – Horseback trail ride in Kenai Wilderness

Today we will go on a thrilling yet easy-going horseback ride featuring spectacular views and amazing forests. Spend your day on a well-trained, yet powerful horse and enjoy the beauty of the wilderness. This back country ride is fine for folks with little or no experience as well as the seasoned rider. Beginners should have a desire to learn the basic horsemanship skills, as well as being in good physical condition. We take plenty of breaks including lunch at a great spot midway. This wilderness adventure lasts about about 5 hours including photo/picture breaks.

Day 5 – Fly-out Salmon Fishing and Bear Viewing

Today in the morning we board a float plane and fly across the Cook Inlet to pristine wilderness. We will land on a wilderness lake where expert guides will help you learn to fish for red salmon. While we fish we will see wild black and grizzly bears who come to the water’s edge looking for fish to eat. This trip is a photographer’s dream, and a fish-lover’s delight. Take home your catch or donate it to a local charity.

Day 6 – Helicopter Flight to Punch Bowl Glacier and Dogsled tour

We’ll drive to Girdwood, Alaska, for a wonderful summer-time glacier dog sledding trip, in combination with a scenic helicopter flight to and from Punch Bowl Glacier. Once on the glacier, you will meet your guide and his enthusiastic Alaskan Huskies. Learn to drive the sled yourself, or settle back in the sled and just enjoy the ride. Photo opportunities abound in the pristine mountains of the Chugach Range, so don’t forget your camera for amazing photo opportunities! Oh, yeah, you’ll want your sunglasses too!

We’ll return to Anchorage for the evening where you can explore Alaska’s largest city and enjoy a fine meal at a rustic brew-pub or an Alaskan Seafood hotspot.

Day 7 – Whitewater rafting expedition on the Matanuska river

The Lion Head Run is a short, fast stretch of whitewater where the Matanuska gets squeezed between rock and ice. During your 3.5 hours on the water, you’ll get a great view of the 27-mile-long Matanuska Glacier, which presses the river up against the massive rock wall called Lion Head. There are a few miles of Class 4 rapids and 14 miles of Class 3 over three hours. After the float, we’ll take an ‘otherworldly’ evening hike on the Matanuska Glacier.
